Former Al-Shorta striker Mohanad Ali has been named Iraq's Player of the Year for 2025 following a string of impressive performances and crucial goals for the Lions of Mesopotamia.

The 25 year-old spent the first half of the year at Al-Shorta where he won the Iraq Stars League title and finished as the league's top scorer with 27 goals.

He carried his club form onto the international stage, scoring all three of Iraq's goals on the way to the 2025 King's Cup title (including a stunning overhead kick against Hong Kong) before netting a crucial equalising goal in World Cup qualifying against the UAE, which helped Iraq secure a place in the intercontinental playoffs this coming March.

"Mimi" finished off the year with a further two goals at the FIFA Arab Cup as Iraq reached the quarter-finals. The striker earned 38.9% of the votes, beating Jalal Hassan (27.8%) and Amir Al-Ammari (16.7%) to be crowned the national team's best player of the year.

ونقل مهند تألقه مع النادي إلى الساحة الدولية، إذ سجل أهداف العراق الثلاثة في مشوار الفوز بلقب "كأس ملك تايلاند" لعام 2025، كما أحرز هدف التعادل الحاسم في مباراة التصفيات المؤهلة لكأس العالم ضد الإمارات، مما ساعد العراق في حجز مقعد في الملحق العالمي المقرر إقامته في شهر مارس المقبل

واختتم "ميمي" العام بتسجيل هدفين إضافيين في بطولة كأس العرب، حيث بلغ المنتخب العراقي الدور ربع النهائي. وقد حصد المهاجم 38.9% من الأصوات، متفوقاً على كل من جلال حسن (27.8%) وأمير العماري (16.7%)، ليتوج بلقب أفضل لاعب في المنتخب الوطني لهذا العام
